The Russian subsidiary OOO SteelDone Group in business

Oy SteelDone Group Ltd has operated in the Russian markets ever since it was established. Marketing and business operations are carried out from the company’s office in Oulu, Finland, and through its representative office, which was inaugurated in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2009. In addition, Oy SteelDone Group Ltd has an office and a representative in Murmansk and a joint venture, SteelDoneNorth, operating in Vologda.
Oy SteelDone Group Ltd has launched a development programme, aimed at expanding its network of partners and business. The objectives of the programme are to strengthen the company’s position and network of partners in the selected market sectors, in order to provide the company’s clients with an even wider range of products and services that can be further tailored to meet their specific needs. The growth in the Russian markets is pursued through a Russian subsidiary and the company’s network of Russian partners. The subsidiary, OOO SteelDone Group, was established in St. Petersburg in November 2011. The main goals of the new company are to create a network of Russian partners and to develop business in co-operation with the Finnish shareholding companies. Mr. Valery Akmanov was appointed Director of OOO SteelDone Group as of 15 November 2010. Surveys related to the establishment of the company and the creation of an operating model were funded by Tekes and Finnvera.
The business model was chosen since projects in the oil and gas industry in Russia increasingly prioritise local content and the transfer of western technology to local companies, in particular, in the field of offshore technology. Joint ventures and partnerships with local enterprises are considered to be the primary operating model for western companies participating in projects. A survey of enterprises is being carried out in co-operation with Finpro.
